At Coral we are passionate about our work with children and their families and about addressing racial, sexual and social inequalities. Many of the parents with whom we work have experienced challenging, difficult and often traumatic childhood themselves, and as part of our assessments we are committed to trying to assist the parents to develop their understanding and insight into the safeguarding concerns, and provide them with the opportunity to develop their parenting skills sufficient to meet the needs of their children within a safe and nurturing environment within which their children can thrive.
At the core of our programmes is the assessment of risk, which considers the ability of the parent(s) or carer(s) to change within the timescale of the child, and whether this is sustainable in the long term. This includes consideration of the robustness of the network, and what role family and friends can provide in reducing any identified risks to the child and safeguarding them in the long term.
